The introduction of innovative, advanced daylighting strategies and systems can considerably reduce a building’s electricity consumption and also significantly improve the quality of light in an indoor environment.
This course identifies and analyzes natural lighting or daylighting as a sustainable design and practice option for green building projects (Building Design and Construction, Operations & Maintenance).
Mastering eQUEST walks you through three case studies of increasing complexity.
The first case study quickly orients you in eQUEST by showing you how to analyze savings with an eQUEST energy model after changing a piece of equipment. After you have mastered the basics, the next case study goes in-depth into all of the eQUEST wizards, ending with a variety of advanced topics like daylighting, fan curves, and ASHRAE Standard 9.1 modeling. The final case study ensures modeling finesse, starting with the creation of a building from a real design drawing and a real .dwg fle. We consider advanced zoning and advanced shell stacking in a detailed 3 story building. Then, we move to detailed mode and work on geometry setup in the building.
We will explore design elements, practices & strategies related to Daylighting today while looking into what might lay ahead in the Daylighting field.
We will go on to explore energy efficient strategies, technologies, and processes applicable for projects. LEED documentation requirements are discussed, and the course concludes with case studies that will demonstrate the concepts introduced.
