Walmart shared the success story of its sustainable initiative Project Gigaton at the retail giant’s annual Sustainability Milestone Summit held in April 2018. Project Gigaton was launched by Walmart in 2017 with the aim of reducing greenhouse emissions in its global supply chain. The company announced that the suppliers reported reducing more than 20 million metric tons of emissions in the global value chain under the project.
“In its first year, Project Gigaton has helped to inspire action that has led to the avoidance of millions of metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions and has expanded into an international campaign that includes the participation of several hundred suppliers,” Kathleen McLaughlin, senior vice president and chief sustainability officer for Walmart, said in a statement.
Walmart also revealed plans to more than double its electric vehicle charging station sites with the addition of several hundred charging stalls across its operations in 34 US states.
