French President Emmanuel Macron expressed hope that his US counterpart would reconsider his decision of pulling out of the Paris Agreement. The two leaders met in Paris last week where US President Donald Trump voiced his concern that Paris Agreement was ‘soft’ on countries like China and India that are among the leading polluters in the world and this was a cause of concern for the US industry.
Macron told a leading weekly daily: “(Trump) told me that he would try to find a solution in the coming months. We spoke in detail about the things that could make him come back to the Paris accord.
The accord, reached by nearly 200 countries in 2015, was meant to limit global warming to 2 degrees or less by 2100, mainly through pledges to cut carbon dioxide and other emissions from the burning of fossil fuels.
