Building energy performance
In order to conserve energy and combat greenhouse gas emissions, regular tracking, or “benchmarking” of a building’s energy performance is needed. This can be done automatically through a software program, including utility bill data integration with ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, or manually. A thorough understanding of whole-building energy efficiency strategies is needed in order for an analyst to make recommendations based off of the performance review. The type of building will also determine what strategies can be used – as a small residential building will
likely not need the same type of tracking and engineering attention as a large corporate complex. Some key drivers of building energy performance are local population, building size, economic activity, and local energy policy.
