The Frick Environmental Center is part of GBRI‘s case study series . Here we look at amazing green building projects from around the world. The FEC is a living learning center for experiential environmental education. It is a joint venture between the city of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy. The Frick Environmental Center is LEED Platinum and Living Building certified, municipally owned, and has free admission. The building and its four-acre site act as a gateway to Pittsburgh’s wooded 644-acre Frick Park .And it embodies the neighborhood-to-nature ideal that served as inspiration for the park’s formation more than 90 years ago. Also the center exemplifies principles of equity, experiential learning, and public engagement and is welcoming and inclusive for all. Join us as we explore this project using AIA COTE measures of sustainable design and LEED.

What you will learn

  1. Recognize the Top 10 green building projects
  2. Identify the AIA COTE measures of sustainable design
  3. Analyze each measure of sustainable design through project specific examples
  4. Identify and understand some of the strategies employed to achieve the sustainability goals set out for the project
