  1. What an informative session! Thanks to all the speakers for bringing on their expertise on the panel. It was highly valuable, more so with the industry insights they shared. The quiz game was the highlight for me, as it was not only helpful in reinforcing what we learnt but also brought out the competitive spirit in me. And we won! Go team, Africa! The climate change song at the end, gave me goosebumps. I am so pumped to earn all the badges and become the Climate Change Ambassador. Definitely taking the 7-day Challenge and hope to win prizes!

Jeslin Varghese, Director of Sustainability, GBRI

Jeslin Varghese is Director of Sustainability at GBRI and Project Controls in the program controls division of Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Construction & Development (MTACD), overseeing multiple mega-projects in New York City with a combined value of $50bn.

Mr. Varghese has over 17 years of professional experience in sustainability and project controls. His experience spans planning, problem solving, strategy development, risk assessment, CPM scheduling, performance monitoring, building & managing teams, and project management.

An avid believer in sustainability and social equity, Jeslin brings enormous talent and engineering experience from the many green residential and commercial building projects he has worked on both in the US and overseas.

Felicia Fuller, Director of Operations, GBRI

Felicia Fuller, Director of Operations, holds an Associate of Applied Science degree in Architectural Computer-Aided Drafting and Design with emphasis on engineering drawing, architectural drawing, and realistic 3D modeling. Felicia is a LEED Green Associate with more than 8 years of valuable industry knowledge. Experienced in leading staff members and evaluating project progress and data Felicia works hands-on with many of GBRI’s projects. Felicia also holds the position of Compliance Director for GBRI partner i-Believe (501c(3)). Felicia is passionate about sustainability and enjoys sharing her passion for sustainability with others – specially her children.

Michael Kaleda

Michael Kaleda , Executive Director

Mike is a career construction management executive with 40 years of federal, state, and local government experience, managing military, school, and transportation projects.  Currently, he is Executive Director of GBRI. 

His transportation experience includes the NYC Moynihan Train Hall project where he organized and led the pre-opening readiness exercises and the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) East Side Access project – the largest active transportation infrastructure project in the United States, where he served as Program Executive for rail construction.  He is a Professional Engineer in New York and is a certified LEED AP, O+M professional. 

He graduated from Manhattan College with a BE in Civil Engineering, from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with an MBA in Management and from the University of Illinois with an MS in Civil Engineering. He is a frequent lecturer, and a mentor to both young engineers and small businesses. 

Paulina Marinkovic, Strategic Consultant & Climate Change Project Manager

Paulina Marinkovic´ is a strategic consultant in the environmental and communications industry.

She has over 13 years of experience working in the sustainability and climate change fields. She’s currently a consultant with clients located worldwide throughout English, Spanish and French speaking countries. Her previous experience includes Startups, corporate, and working for half a decade at Consolidated Edison, the largest investor-owned energy company in the USA. She’s a graduate from Harvard University with a degree in Environmental Management, a Masters in Science from Columbia University in Sustainability Management, a degree in journalism, an Executive MBA and LEED AP O&M credentials. Paulina has a passion for conservation, restoration, sustainability, social impact, and all things Earth! Her interdisciplinary background combines Earth sciences and communications expertise to effectively convey strategies and messages encompassing all things sustainability.

Craig Schiller

Craig is the Executive Director of the Collaborative for High Performance Schools and a decarbonization expert specializing in the built environment, transportation, and climate policy. He has over 12 years of experience advancing sustainability and decarbonizing our economy, including being a green building educator, designing state and federal climate policy, and managing projects in energy efficiency, higher education, transportation, aviation, and net-zero energy buildings. In addition, he spent seven years with the decarbonization think-tank RMI, served as an Advisory on the Biden-Harris Climate/Environment/Energy Committee, and as the Chief Strategy Officer of a clean-tech aviation startup. Craig has a Masters in Sustainable Design from Carnegie Mellon University and a Bachelors in Geology from the University of Wisconsin.

Joan H. Schiller, MD

Joan H. Schiller, MD
Lung Cancer Research Foundation
University of Virginia, Adjunct Professor
OUCH (Oncologists United for Climate and Health)

Dr. Joan H. Schiller is a widely published  medical oncologist who is  internationally recognized for her work in lung cancer clinical research. She is also passionate about climate change and its impact on health. She is the author of Global Warming, COVID-19, and Lung Cancer: Why Lung Cancer Doctors Should Care about Climate Change and Why Oncologists Should Care About Climate Change, and has given webinars on the subject.

Before serving as the Deputy Director of Clinical Investigation for the Inova Schar Cancer Institute in Fairfax, Virginia, and Chief of Hematology/Oncology, she was the division chief of Hematology/Oncology at the University of Texas-Southwestern Medical Center and Deputy Director of the Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center in Dallas, where she held the Andrea L. Simmons Distinguished Chair in Cancer Research.

Dr. Schiller’s research has generated well over 200 publications that she has authored or co-authored, including articles, abstracts, book chapters, books, reviews and invited manuscripts.

Mina Agarabi, Principal, Agarabi Engineering

Mina Agarabi, PE, CEM, BCxP, CPMP, CPHD is the principal of Agarabi Engineering, a mechanical engineering firm and energy efficiency consultant based in Brooklyn, NY. Her and her staff have crafted numerous plans to optimize and decarbonize building HVAC and enclosure systems, as well as commissioning and retro-commissioning them to ensure efficient building performance.

She serves as the chair of the ASHRAE Technical Committee for Building Commissioning and as voting member on the SSPC drafting Standard 230 for Commissioning of Existing Systems and Assemblies. She received her B.S. from Boston University in 2001 and her M.S. from New York University in 2002.”

Avery Miles

Avery Miles, Multimedia Journalist

Avery is a multimedia journalist who has worked on several documentary films and in audio production. She is passionate about animal welfare and conservation, having produced a PSA video for the NAKA Elephant Foundation in Chiang Mai, Thailand followed by assisting on the documentary, “No Fear No Favor,” which covers anti-poaching efforts in Zambia, Namibia, and Kenya. Recently, she has started collaborating with Defenders of Wildlife on raising awareness about wolf conservation.

Sean O'Brien, Senior Project Manager

Sean O’Brien AIA, LEED AP BD+C, SAP, NCARB is a registered Architect in NY and the State of Qatar. Sean has over 20 years of experience in design and project management on numerous project types including K-12 educational facilities, higher education facilities, medical facilities, commercial buildings, federal installations and NGO infrastructure projects, both domestically and internationally. Sean specializes in resilient and sustainable design practices and has provided design services and construction services for numerous LEED certified and GBI GPC projects. Sean promotes sustainable high-performance design and construction through his design research and solutions, speaking at seminars, and as a volunteer member of the Green Building Councils in the US and Qatar. Sean is currently serving as the Co-Chairman of the Market Leadership Advisory Board of the US Green Building Council Upstate NY Chapter.

Peter Martin

Peter Martin, International Development Consultant, Co-Founder, Vice-Chairman

Peter G. Martin is a native New Yorker who works in the field of of Community Engagement and Development. He has worked on both publicly and privately funded initiatives aimed at empowering various vulnerable populations. These populations  include at-risk inner city youth, people at high-risk for HIV/AIDS, injection drug users, low-income medicaid recipients, formally incarcerated people who are assimilating back into society, and various vulnerable international populations such as refugees, girls with limited access to education and at-risk of early girl marriage, women in need of economic and financial empowerment, and low-income, disadvantaged farmers.

His professional background has allowed him to work with people in NYC/Long Island, Philadelphia, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Kenya, Tanzania, and Malawi. He currently serves as an Advisor for various non-profits and NGOs, including CAREPositive Life KenyaProtect Her Path, and GBRI’s I-Believe. 

Makenna Gooldy, Director of Community Outreach

Makenna is Director of Community Outreach at GBRI with 9+ years of wide-ranging experience in diverse industries. Professional at building long-lasting relationships, cutting to the chase, and customer experience. Vast knowledge of Operations Management, Sales Development, and Marketing. Strong track record that includes strategic planning and partnerships, recruitment and training, motivational leadership & team management. Committed to acting as a professional and competent first point of contact to clients and sponsors. In her spare time, she works to help young adult minorities find jobs.
