  • Keeping Your House Warm in Winter

    The harshest part of winter is starting to approach for many, so to avoid going to bed dressed head to toe in winter gear, start making improvements to your home now.

    One of the easiest ways to keep your house warm is to seal any air leaks and air ducts. Check around your windows and doors for any cool air coming in. If you feel any cold air coming through, it is time to start weatherproofing. Choose which material is best fit for problem areas based on much traffic they receive throughout the year. Tension seals, felt, caulking, door sweeps, and door shoes are just some of the materials available. Refer to this chart for more information.

    Air ducts are important to seal because having leaks and holes in your home’s envelope is about as cost-effective as having a hole in your pocket. It may be best to work with a professional contractor for duct improvement, but if you must, use metal tape (not duct tape) to seal any holes that you can safely access. Read More
